How To Keep Your Event Sanitary

In the world of Covid-19, keeping events sanitary is more important than ever. Planning processes have had to be recalibrated, with health, safety, and sanitary measures at the heart of events planning. There is no one size fits all solution, or a measure to end all measures, but there are basic ideas that you can follow to keep your event sanitary and put your guests at ease.

Train Your Staff Properly

In the lead-up to the event, you need to train your staff properly so that they can rise to the challenges of hosting an event in a pandemic era. They need to be well versed in the protocols and products necessary to assure Covid-19 safety. For example, in search of the right disinfectants to use, you can look through the Environmental Protection Agency’s “N List” in which they show approved disinfectants to combat the coronavirus as well as other pathogens.

You should use microfiber cloths to wipe down surfaces. The reason is that they keep surfaces wet, allowing disinfectants to work. People often think that disinfecting is enough, but disinfecting goes hand in hand with cleaning. You need to clean in order to remove dust and dirt, and you need to disinfect in order to reduce or eliminate pathogens that could cause Covid-19 as well as other illnesses. Clean first and disinfect second.

You will also need to factor in kill time, or the time it takes to kill bacteria, viruses and germs. Bacteria, viruses and germs do not die instantly. Each product has different kill times, so you need to check this. Ideally, your disinfectant’s kill time will be under one minute, while other products can take as much as 10 minutes.

Identify High-Touch Surfaces

High-touch surfaces can be identified through “finger tracing” and thinking about all the areas that your guests may touch with some degree of frequency. A good way of checking for high-touch surfaces is walking through the event space and taking into all the surfaces that you touch with your fingers and hands, for example, bathroom faucets, door handles, banisters and elevator buttons.

High touchpoints areas where transmission of Coronavirus and other pathogens is potentially very high and so these areas must be given extra attention. How frequently you wipe the area down depends upon the number of guests and the size of the venue. You might want to have someone specially on high touchpoint cleaning duty in your event venue, so that standards do not slip here.

Communicate with your attendees

It is very important to keep your attendees informed of the cleaning and safety protocols from the get-go, so that everybody knows what to do and everyone is reassured that their health concerns are being taken into account. Publicize your cleaning and safety protocols on the event website, on social media, and on on-site signage. Share safety tips with attendees, such as how frequently they should wash their hands, mask wearing protocols, and social distancing measures, prior to the event.

Keep décor to a minimum

In the Covid-19 era, less is more with respect to décor. Reason being that the more décor you have at an event, the more things you have to clean and often many of these items are very hard to clean, for example, curtains, and carpets, or even cushioned chairs.
